BALLETS RUSSES

A fateful meeting between Hoppé and Ballets Russes impresario Sergei Diaghilev resulted in his being given unique access to the troupe, then at a peak of creativity and popularity. Diaghilev did not allow the company to be photographed by movie cameras, so Hoppé’s images are a unique insight into these productions, the personalities of the dancers, and the stunningly elaborate costumes.

Among outstanding events in the course of my professional career I might mention my connection with the Russian Ballet.

– E.O. Hoppé
