A passionate fan of literature, as well as being a writer himself, Hoppé had a particular enthusiasm and facility in photographing writers. As people who are not usually in the limelight, and whose creative work is made quietly and privately, writers could be notoriously difficult subjects. Hoppé, however, was usually able to bring them out of their shells, find common interests, and create a spark that could reveal their unique character story to his camera.
