Hoppé was educated in Austria in his early teens, and some said he retained an Austrian lilt in his accent throughout his life. After his enormous success as a photographer in Britain, Hoppé fell in love with the mountain village of Mölln, and he purchased a ranch home there where he spent most summers. Though many of his Austrian images depict a romantic, leisurely natural lifestyle, a huge contrast to his bustling life in central London, he also documents the ominous increasing presence of Nazism that would eventually oust him from his tranquil Alpine home.
Life is at its simplest in this spot, where people love and treat their animals as human beings, each one answering to a name, including even the fierce stud bull.
